What To Wear In Italy In November (And Look Like A Local)

Italy is never a bad idea!
If you’ve booked that November holiday and are wondering what to wear in Italy in November, you’re in the right place.

Still deciding? You might want to consider shifting your trip to December for fewer rainy days and a festive Christmas atmosphere. If you’re sticking with November, though, it’s worth knowing which cities tend to get the most rain—think Rome, Milan, Genoa, Florence, and Venice.

For drier skies, Southern Italy is usually a safer bet—although November is generally a rainy month across the country.

That said, if you don’t mind a little drizzle, there’s plenty to enjoy. Italian cities are full of stunning museums, cozy cafés, and some of the best shopping in Europe—perfect for a rainy day.

Now, let’s get into what to wear in Italy in November, from North to South. Every outfit in this guide is inspired by what locals are actually wearing this time of year—so you can blend in with confidence and feel like you’re living the Italian life.

What To Wear In Milan In November

Last year I visited Milan in mid October and it was pretty cold and rainy. Based on that experience, I have come up with four outfit ideas, considering all the things I wished I had done differently. I hope it helps you be better prepared.

Light wash straight leg jeans paired with black pointed leather boots set a crisp foundation. A cream high neck sweater adds warmth and softness, while the slightly washed-out burnt red coat brings in a rich, seasonal tone. The coat’s structure and warmth make it ideal for Northern Italy’s chilly, damp November days.

A monochrome cream outfit built from tailored pants, sleek cream boots, a soft cashmere knit, and a cropped fur jacket. This look balances cozy layers with a clean, elevated aesthetic—perfect for cities like Milan, where fashion matters even when it’s grey and cold.

Charcoal tailored trousers and a matching long coat create a sleek, elongated silhouette. Underneath, a light grey sweater keeps it soft and layered, while tan accessories (shoes, belt, and a structured shoulder bag) warm up the look. The neutral contrast works well with the muted November skies up north.

Black cigarette pants and a black sweater create a streamlined base, layered under a medium-length tan puffer jacket. Black boots finish the look with practicality. Great for staying warm and dry without sacrificing style on those rainy November afternoons.

Dark emerald leather trousers offer a bold seasonal color, paired with a taupe high-neck sweater and a tonal long coat that pulls it all together. Tan accessories—belt, bag, and shoes—add warmth and dimension. This outfit is ideal for crisp city days when layering is essential.

Outfits For Rome & Florence In November

Rome and Florence are far less cold than Milan because they are further down. While Rome will be warmer, it will also be rainier than Florence, so keep that in mind when packing.

The outfits below are perfect examples of how to dress for the rain, be warm but not hot, especially going in and out from shops and restaurants.

Regular wash jeans meet dark brown boots and a tucked-in brown button-up shirt for a grounded, casual base. A taupe waterproof trench coat makes it practical and polished—just right for strolling through Florence or Rome when there’s a chance of rain.

White tailored trousers and a blouse offer a clean base, while tan suede boots and a matching bag keep things cohesive (just make sure to weatherproof them). Topped with a cream and light brown checked coat, this look is both fresh and seasonal—perfect for those cool but not-too-cold November days.

Italy in November outfits

Brown wide-leg cropped trousers give a playful shape, styled with black pointed boots and a cropped wool jacket for balance. Ideal for a mix of indoor and outdoor exploring, especially in places like Siena or Orvieto, where layers are useful.

A brown sheath dress, paired with brown or nude tights and matching boots, keeps it streamlined. Layered under a classic beige trench coat, this is a practical, elegant choice for slightly warmer central cities where rain can still sneak in.

Charcoal jeans and a charcoal sweater form a sleek, tone-on-tone base. Brown leather walking boots make it practical for uneven cobblestones, and a camel coat brightens up the look while offering warmth for early evening outings.

What To Wear In Southern Italy In November

Southern Italy, especially Sicily, can be a great idea in November if you are still looking for a Sunny holiday, and would like to swim. The sea will definitely be colder but not too cold for people who love swimming. If that’s you, I suggest you visit towards the beginning of the month.

Visiting places like Lecce and Alberobello (in Puglia), or Palermo and Taormina (in Sicily), will require you to pack smartly. You should have enough options for warm days, sightseeing, maybe even sunbathing and swimming, but also rainy and cooler days.

We’ll talk about packing for Italy in November in the next section. For now, let me show you a few outfit ideas to pack for walking the Southern Italian streets like a local.

Tan cigarette pants with a cream button-up make for a crisp base. Add a lightweight cream and red tartan blazer for a playful layer that’s more about style than warmth—perfect for southern cities that stay mild well into November.

A burnt red suit worn casually with a tan round-neck short-sleeve cashmere knit. Tan loafers keep it relaxed yet smart. This is ideal for those dry, sunny days in the south where temperatures stay comfortable and you can skip the heavy coat.

Now that I have shown you the outfits, let me share with you the items you must pack for each part of Italy in November. Here’s a more detailed seasonal packing list. You can download my Fall & Winter packing checklists there.

Start Planning For The Next Season

If you have started planning for November it means December and Winter are right around the corner. It’s never too early to shop for thermals, warm pants, boots, and coats, especially if you are set on a specific style. I find the nicer coats and boots are always out of stock come December. What about you?

That post gives you great outfit ideas for Winter in Italy, but many of them can also be worn in November, if you are visiting colder cities like Aosta, Bolzano, Turin, and Milan.
