What To Wear In Italy In April: 15 Outfit Ideas By Region
The outfits that follow were inspired by two of my favorite Italian fashion designers – Max Mara and Armani.
You’ll notice the style and colors are very classic and timeless, making them perfect for any age and occasion.
However, if you are someone who loves brighter bolder colors, don’t be afraid to incorporate them in these looks. For that, I suggest you take a look at my What To Wear In March article. You’ll find plenty of vivid colors there!
We’ll look at 5 looks, with three variations each – one for colder weather, one for the average weather, and the last one for the warmest Italian destinations.
Spring Tan Outfits – Inspired by Max Mara
This look exudes Max Mara vibes with a stunning tan and white combination. The classic lines and sophisticated cuts make it incredibly versatile, easily transitioning from day to night. The key to styling these looks is pairing them with different shoes to adjust the formality.

For colder days, the first variation uses warmer fabrics like wool and cashmere, while the second opts for lighter, breathable fabrics perfect for spring.

For Southern Italy, you can skip the upper layer, but always have a cardigan or jacket on hand for unexpected weather changes.
Effortlessly Chic Brown Outfits
Brown has been a top trend since last fall, and it’s here to stay through Summer. For a bold, spring-ready look, I suggest embracing the deeper chocolate hues instead of the lighter browns. These rich tones pair beautifully with black, creams, and white.
The three outfit variations showcase different ways to mix and match brown pieces. Whether it’s a sleek pair of trousers or classic accessories, these options will keep you stylish and comfortable throughout the month of April.

Timeless Black Outfits for Spring
Black outfits are always a timeless choice, whether you go for an all-black look or mix it with white for a classic monochrome effect. I’ve played with textures in these outfits, showing how varying fabrics like soft cardigans or chunky sweaters can add interest to a simple black ensemble.
Monochrome outfits should always include well-structured, high-quality pieces to ensure they look chic. And if an all black outfit scares you, you’ll never go wrong with adding some white and cream!

Sleek Grey Outfits – Inspired by Armani
Armani’s take on grey for spring is one you won’t want to miss. Don’t shy away from an all-grey outfit—it’s chic and sophisticated.
For Northern Italy, I suggest pairing it with a warm coat for the cooler days.

In Central Italy, opt for a medium-thick cardigan, while in Southern Italy, a lighter top layer will be perfect.

If you’re not a fan of monochrome, grey pairs effortlessly with classic white and black for a clean, stylish look that’s perfect for April.

Elegant Khaki Looks for April
This spring, Armani is bringing various shades of khaki, from light to dark, with creative color pairings like lilac.
For a more classic, elegant approach, I’ve kept this look simple with a white, cream, and tan palette. The khaki tones are perfect for the warmer spring days, offering a neutral base that pairs easily with other colors.
Whether you’re strolling through the streets of Northern or Southern Italy, this look will make you feel effortlessly elegant.

Packing Tips For April In Italy
April in Italy sees more consistent spring weather, but it’s still important to be ready for both cool mornings and sunny afternoons. In the North, it’s still spring-like but can be chilly, while in the South, you’ll start to feel the warmth of summer coming.
- Layers Are Still Essential:
In Northern Italy, April is a time of transition, and the weather can still be unpredictable. Bring layers such as sweaters, light coats, and scarves. As you move south, consider packing lighter layers, but you may still need a jacket for the evenings in Central Italy. - Pack for Warmer Days in the South:
Southern Italy will feel more like late spring or early summer, with temperatures rising steadily. It’s a great time to wear lighter fabrics like cotton or linen. Shorts, skirts, and short-sleeve shirts can be ideal, but you may still need a cardigan or light jacket in the evenings. - Brighten Up with Spring Colors:
While you’ll see darker hues in the North, feel free to embrace lighter and more colorful tones in the South. Soft pastels, light blues, and shades of white, beige, and tan are perfect for the warmer weather. - Footwear for All Occasions:
While it’s too early for sandals, comfortable walking shoes are a must. In Northern and Central Italy, closed-toe shoes like boots or sneakers are ideal for sightseeing and transitional weather. In Southern Italy, you can start wearing lighter shoes but save the sandals for May when it gets warmer. - Sun Protection for the South:
As the weather warms in Southern Italy, don’t forget to pack sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat to protect yourself from the sun, particularly if you’re planning to explore the coastal areas or enjoy outdoor cafes.
