It’s almost that time of the year when we put our coats away and take out the shirts and dresses. It’s certainly an exciting moment… but what about work? What are we going to wear to the office?
Is that what you’re thinking? Or maybe you’re simply bored of wearing the same Summer work outfits season after season.
Welcome, friend. I’m Alessia, the writer and founder behind Italy With An Italian.
If you’re looking for fresh inspiration, you’re in the right place.
There’s no better place than Italy—especially Milan—to find stylish office outfit ideas. And because Italian Summers get so hot, you’ll find plenty of inspiration for what to wear when a heatwave hits your town or city.
I’ve curated nearly 20 Summer work outfits inspired by real looks I saw Italian women wearing on the streets of Milan. Let’s take a look together.

Tips For Styling Work Outfits In Summer
Before sharing the outfit ideas, I’d like to start with a few tips that will hopefully help spark that inspiration back when styling yourself for work during the warm season.
That way, even when you are out of outfit ideas, you can easily dress in the morning and feel good about your choice.
Think about your favorite Summer work outfit.
I am sure you at least have one you love and go back to. But I understand that you can just wear the same thing again and again, unless it’s a uniform. Ask yourself what you love about it, why it feels comfortable, beautiful, put together. And then think about ways to recreate the same outfit in different ways.
Can you switch the colors?
Can you switch the pants for a skirt?
Can you wear a different top?
That’s a good start for helping you come up with similar but different office looks you can feel good wearing.
What’s one thing you are struggling the most with when dressing for work in Summer?
Is it the hot weather?
Is it that you miss the extra styling that an outerwear adds to an outfit?
If it’s the hot weather, the best advice I can give you is to look at lighter fabrics, like linen and cotton. That doesn’t mean you have to dress casually or lose the structure of your office looks, that same structure that makes you feel empowered and like a boss lady (are we still using those words?).
If it’s the outerwear element you are missing, you can still wear it. You just have to shift to Summer appropriate blazers and jackets. Think sleeveless, or linen blazers. You can wear those inside your air conditioned office, and then take them out when you are ready to step out, or when you are sitting at your desk working away.
Do your work outfits feel less put together in Summer?
Is that what you are struggling with?
If so, it just means you need to up the tailoring level. Even just one tailored piece can make your outfit look put together, smart, and empowering, if you choose it well and also style it appropriately.

If it’s your rigid work environment the problem, there’s always a way around it.
Maybe you work in a job that has strict rules about attire, and those rules become more pressing when it’s Summer and all you want to do is wear beautiful colorful dresses. Well, you know what they say about rules.. they are there to be broken!
And no, I am not suggesting you go all out, break the rules, and get yourself fired. But maybe, you could bend the rules a little and see what happens. Could you perhaps incorporate a pastel color with your shoes or bag or scarf? Can you maybe add some florals with your blouse? Can you try lighter shaded suits for Summer?
I am pretty sure that if it’s just your outfit that changes, and not your performance, no one would really notice, unless they have nothing better to do.
Looking for casual Summer Outfits you can work and live in?
If the office is not the problem because you don’t work in one, what is it? Are you self-employed or work from home? If so, maybe you feel like you are living a double life in Summer – one next to the pool or on the beach with your kids, and one in front of your desk. You can’t possibly show up to meetings wearing a beach dress, can you?
Well, that’s a good problem to have, but it’s beyond the scope of this article. While you can still get inspired by a few of the looks I am about to share, these are mainly suited for women who work in an office or outside the home. They are a little less casual than what you’re likely after.

Summer Work Outfits Italian Women Love To Wear
Now that we have tried to understand why you are struggling with putting together your Summer work outfits, and looked at ways to overcome that, we are ready to see how Italian women are doing it, and hopefully get our styling mojo back.
If you don’t get it, don’t worry, just start by recreating one or two of these outfits. You can switch the colors, change the accessories, and make them your own. That exercise will help your creative juices get unstuck, and I promise you will start feeling inspired again.
Here come the outfits.

Here’s a classy Summer outfit you can wear to your corporate job and feel great in. It’s light and breathable, put together, but still very feminine. You can take this concept, choose your favorite color and have fun with the accessories.

Need an outfit that feels dressed up but doesn’t look like a suit? Here’s a very classic one. I am showing two ways to style it – the first is more elevated, and the second feels a little more casual.
Let’s go back to the corporate ladies. Perhaps, you are a lawyer and need to dress up every day, even on hot Summer days. Well, an outfit like this is great. You can even add a blazer, if you are going to a meeting.

The next one is another relaxed office look. It’s also great if you work in a boutique, you are a doctor, or even an interior designer. The linen dresses this slightly down, but the tailoring and the monochrome help to make it feel more polished.

Want to add a little bit of color to your Summer office wardrobe but still keep it classic? Consider wearing an outfit similar to this one. You are adding just one colored garment, but because that piece is tailored (we are talking about the powder blue vest) it still feels dressed up.

Do you love matching sets, and perhaps you also enjoy wearing skirts in Summer? Here are two similar but different outfit ideas. One is more modest — has a wider fit with a more demure neckline. The other one is more figure hugging and feminine, but still classy. Which one would you wear?

If you are not afraid of adding multiple pops of color to your Summer work ensembles, this is a stunning look to recreate, and you can easily switch the colors up to make it more your own. That floral scarf tied at the waist like a belt creates a very stylish sophisticated look that feels unique, creative, but still put together.

Speaking of color, a fun pastel shift dress like this one can look gorgeous for work, if you work in a more relaxed office environment. It’s great if you are your own boss, or if you work in a boutique or as a designer. Teachers too could wear this, but most of you are not going to be working during the holidays.

This next outfit shows us that you can look put together in a Summer dress. You just need to choose solid colors or smarter prints, and use your accessories to make the outfit look more put together. In this case, the added belt adds the structure, and the cream heeled sandals keep the outfit soft. If you’d like to wear a similar outfit but make it even softer and less bold, you could match the accessories and choose a lighter less bright color – in this case, cream is a good base color.

Do you have a favourite white dress but don’t know how to dress it up for work? Consider doing what many Milanese do, they layer it with a light blazer. You can wear the blazer over the shoulder when you need to look more polished, like for a meeting, and then once you are off work, you can remove the blazer and go run your errands.

If you’d like another outfit idea you can style with the classic Italian-style tan accessories here’s a great one. It’s sleeveless, flowy, light and soft but still looks like you have made an effort.

Speaking of soft, here’s a lighter delicate Summer work outfit for those women who love wearing lighter colors in Summer.

No outfit guide can be complete without a black outfit. And while Italians wear less black in Summer, we can always make room for one black outfit, especially if it’s a classic dress styled in a very Italian way. Did you know Italian women love pairing black with coral accessories in Summer?

If you are in favor of the classic outfits, here’s another one I am always mentioning. I call it the Italian uniform, or one of them. It’s a midi A line skirt worn with a white shirt tucked in. This is a great outfit for the office in Summer. You can take this concept and change the colors, and even the style of shoes to make it feel more dressed up or more comfortable, depending on your work environment.

The last four outfits I’d like to show you are two dressier ones and two more casual ones. Each set includes a colorful and a more neutral one, which gives you plenty of choice.
Tell me.. did you find a few outfits to recreate for work, this Summer?
