26 Beautiful Italian Quotes For Your Vision Board

1. “Anno nuovo, vita nuova.”
This means “New year, new life” — a great way to start off! If you’re reading this at the end of the year or at the beginning of a new one, this proverb perfectly captures this time of transition. It’s a new beginning. Rather than feeling the pressure of summing up the past year or focusing on what you didn’t achieve, use this saying to remind yourself that life is not a marathon. Instead of pushing or punishing yourself, it’s time to be kinder and focus on happiness rather than just accomplishments. Think of it as inspiring your whole existence, in line with the dolce vita concept.

2. “Sognare non costa niente.”
Here’s another one to live by at the beginning of the year. For many of us in the Northern Hemisphere, winter, especially January, can be tough and a bit depressing. The cold, the gloomy days, and the start of a new year where you’re trying to figure out the best way forward. Let’s all begin with this one thing – dreaming. Even the greatest accomplishments start with a dream. So, instead of focusing on the dreary weather, use that time to daydream and inspire your year ahead and the future to come.

3. “Si vive una volta sola.”
The third one I want to share with you today is another great one for any time you need to be reminded that life is not just about daily routines. We all get caught up in living day-to-day, facing problems, solving them, and enjoying the rewards, but we often forget that we only have one life, and we can’t even say how long it will be. Let this inspire you and motivate you to go after the things you truly want this year, rather than just going through the motions.

4. “Chi non risica non rosica.”
Here’s one I’ve always loved, probably because I heard my dad say it all the time. And while I’m not someone who generally loves risks, I do love to embrace change and feel excited about it rather than fearing it. So, let’s start the year on this note. I’m not suggesting you gamble, invest all your savings in one thing, or quit your job. Rather, think of that thing you’ve always wanted to do, start, or try — and set things in motion now. Take the first step, and everything else will feel easier. Let’s remember that only those who try can achieve great things.

5. “Chi si accontenta gode.”
After all this talk of trying new things, embracing change, and living a fuller life, I believe it’s important that we all start the year off with a lot of gratitude for the things we already have — whether that’s health, a home, food, clothes, a job, or family — or hopefully, all of them. Gratitude breeds abundance, and abundance is the fuel for manifestation. Those three things are the perfect combination for a great life full of positivity, every step of the way.

6. “Chi semina raccoglie.”
Whether you’re into gardening or not, we all know that great things only grow where the soil is fertile and well cared for. But you also need to take the time to plan those things. That’s the same in life. Whether it’s a relationship you want to nurture, a new hobby you want to start, your health, your fitness, your diet, your appearance, your wardrobe, your home, your career, your education — what are you doing about it now? We can’t expect things to fall from the sky just because we want them. We need to put in the work to manifest them. So, what are you going to plant this year, this month, this day?

7. “Da cosa nasce cosa.”
Once I started appreciating this, my life changed for the better. Before, I was only focused on using my time to achieve something. So if something didn’t clearly lead to my goals, I thought it wasn’t worth my time. Big mistake! Life is a journey, not a destination. And you truly understand that when you let life guide you along the way. I’m not saying to completely abandon yourself to it and lose control. What I am saying is, if something feels right (listen to that gut feeling), do it, even if it doesn’t lead to anything. You’ll be amazed at how many doors that little something can open!

8. “Chi la fa, l’aspetta.”
We’ve talked a lot about individualism so far, but I think it’s time to remember that we don’t live in this world alone, and everything we do must be in full respect of others — humans, animals, and the earth. If you don’t want to do it out of the goodness of your heart, do it for good karma. After all, bad things have a way of coming back to bite you in the… (let’s keep it polite). We can all coexist peacefully if we remember it’s not just about us, and that others’ needs and wants matter too!

9. “Sin che si vive, s’impara.”
This is a great one for those who are feeling lost or lacking direction. The best thing to do is to return to learning. Start by learning something that inspires you and let the process guide you. It might lead you to discover new interests, try something different, or simply show you the direction you’ve been seeking in a very natural way. Give it a try!
Provalo!

10. “Finché c’è vita, c’è speranza.”
For those feeling hopeless or desperate, I want to suggest this one. I understand that there are times in life — very difficult situations, sometimes bigger than ourselves — where even the most positive quote can seem insufficient. But little things count. Let this quote ignite something inside you, and that something is to never lose hope. “La speranza è l’ultima a morire” (Hope is the last to die) is another way to express this, and it’s my favorite. Look for solutions everywhere. And even if it feels like there are none, don’t stop until you find one. And if you don’t, at least you’ll know you tried!

11. “Dio vede e provvede.”
Another great one for those who have lost hope or just need the reminder is that you are not alone. There’s a more powerful force that’s here to help you, support you, and lead your way. You can think of it as God, or the Universe – you decide. Either way, knowing we are not alone can be very reassuring and empowering in those moments when life gets hard. And even if life is not hard right now, this higher force is here to help us achieve that happiness we are all after. You just need to ask, do the work, and be open to receive it – whatever that will look like for you.

12. “La notte porta consiglio.”
If you are tackling something that needs a lot of thought, this is the best quote for that situation. Sleep on it, and things will get clearer. I personally like to always take a few days to contemplate things, whether it’s a small purchase or a big life decision. What about you?
E tu, cosa fai?

13. “Sbagliando si impara.”
Do you need this reminder today? Are you in the middle of deciding whether to try something new, take a challenge, go for that opportunity, or not? If so, don’t forget that only by trying will you know. Of course, weigh the pros and cons, but if your gut feeling is telling you to do it, go for it. If you fail, you’ll learn, grow, and improve. Plus, that failure or mistake might lead to something better. Of course, always with respect for others.

14. “Quando c’è la salute c’è tutto.”
Do you need this reminder today? Of course, we all want to get better, be happier, achieve more, and grow. That’s what we are here for. But nothing matters when you are not healthy. So, if you are blessed with that luxury, be grateful and celebrate. Remember, gratitude breeds abundance, and abundance is the fuel for manifestation.

15. “Non tutto il male viene per nuocere.”
I know this may sound strange, but being positive also means accepting that bad things can sometimes lead to great ones. This doesn’t mean you’re wishing for bad things to happen. It simply means looking at life from a different perspective, which helps you navigate its ups and downs more smoothly. Life is full of surprises and unexpected challenges, many of which are unpleasant, but it’s the way we respond to them that shapes our journey.

16. “Tutto è bene quel che finisce bene.”
This quote is perfect for you if you’ve recently faced a challenge. Take a moment to appreciate that you’ve made it through to the other side. Reflect on your strengths and weaknesses, and let this reflection empower you moving forward. The next time you face a challenge, you’ll be better equipped to handle it—and to help those around you as well.

17. “Al cuore non si comanda.”
This saying can be interpreted in two ways. One is more romantic: love is blind, and we can’t control who we fall in love with. The other is a reminder that, while being rational is important, we also need to let our hearts have a say. It’s not always about what makes sense on paper but about what feels right to you. And if you don’t fully trust your heart, let your gut be your guide!

18. “Chi cerca trova.”
Here’s another quote that can be interpreted in both a general and romantic way. The version I prefer is the general one, as it reminds me of my Sicilian grandma. She would always say this (seek and you shall find) while praying to Santa Lucia when trying to find something she misplaced. Now, I do the same when I’m looking for something. The romantic interpretation, on the other hand, is a reminder for those who are single: there’s someone out there searching for you too. So, rather than living in desperation, focus on living the life that will naturally lead to meeting that person. And most importantly, don’t settle for anything less than what you truly deserve.

19. “Parla come mangi.”
This is a great reminder for those who need a reality check or a down-to-earth approach. It’s wonderful to aim for self-improvement, achieve greater things, and pursue more. Italians often embrace the idea of “dressing for the job you want, not the one you have,” which is why they are always dressed to impress. However, portraying a more refined image shouldn’t mean changing who you are or pretending to be someone else. This saying reminds us that it’s important to be authentic—by being yourself, you’ll naturally attract the right people and opportunities.

20. “Tra il dire e il fare c’è di mezzo il mare.”
This is another saying I really love because it encourages us to focus on action rather than endless talking. I live by this philosophy myself—I’m someone who talks less and acts more. I prefer not to speak about something until it’s accomplished. Part of this is because if I haven’t achieved something yet, there’s really nothing to say, and another part comes from the fear that talking too soon might jinx it. It all starts with an idea, a plan, and yes, a conversation—but that conversation should be with yourself first and foremost. It’s also a gentle reminder for those who like to boast, as words are easy, but action is what truly matters.

21. “La calma è la forza dei forti.”
Speaking of dealing with difficult people, let this serve as a reminder that calmness is the greatest strength in those situations. Of course, you can speak up if something really bothers you, but doing so politely and calmly will have far more impact than shouting or losing control—trust me on this. The same applies when you’re facing a challenge or in the middle of a disagreement. Staying calm gives you clarity and power, allowing you to handle the situation with grace and effectiveness.

22. “Chi vivrà, vedrà.”
This next one is a powerful quote to respond to someone who doubts you or tries to discourage you from pursuing your goals. It’s perfect when someone questions your path or criticizes your choices—reminding them that only time will tell how things turn out. It’s also a great reminder for yourself that there is always time to achieve what you set out to do, even if things seem uncertain at the moment. There are many interpretations of this saying, but it ultimately conveys hope and patience, assuring that the results will unfold in their own time.

Let’s face it, many of us spend our lives chasing dreams, striving for more, and feeling down when we haven’t yet achieved everything we want. But remember, your neighbor, your colleague, or even your spouse might be doing the same thing. Just as you admire something they have that you don’t, they likely feel the same way about what you have. So, never feel inferior or discouraged—keep persevering.
Another important lesson from this saying is that just because you want something doesn’t necessarily mean it’s better than what you already have, or that it’s right for you. It’s natural to desire what we don’t have, but that doesn’t mean we should try to get everything. Choose your battles wisely and appreciate what you already possess.

24. “Roma non fu fatta in un giorno.”
This is another one I love, especially since I adore Rome. It’s a powerful reminder for those days when things feel tough—whether you’re having a challenging day, feeling unwell, or dealing with frustration. Remember that progress takes time. Just like Rome, which wasn’t built in a single day, the road to your goals may be filled with challenges, but each obstacle is part of the journey. One day, you’ll look back with a smile, realizing that every step was worth it. So, why not start smiling today and embrace the process?

25. “Meglio tardi che mai.”
Let’s finish off this list with some encouragement. Whether you’re reading this at the start of a new year, feeling excited but perhaps a bit overwhelmed, or at the year’s end, reflecting on goals that still feel out of reach, here’s a reminder: you’ll get there eventually. It’s okay to keep going, month after month, year after year. If it’s meaningful to you, your persistence will pay off. And once you reach your goal, take a moment to celebrate your achievement instead of rushing to the next challenge.

26. “Chi va piano, va sano e va lontano.”
This is one of my favorites. If you’re new to the concept of slow living—doing things slowly but meaningfully and effectively—it’s something you should definitely try. It’s amazing how life changes when you shift your approach from the “go-go” mentality, which often leads to stress and illness, to the healthier dolce vita lifestyle. This way of living focuses on the things that truly matter, taking your time without rushing, while still being efficient and productive. Is this the year you try slow living?
