For each trend, I’m sharing an outfit idea to help you see how it can work in everyday life—sometimes styled exactly how I’d wear it, other times inspired by how I’d suggest a taller friend might wear it.

How to Recreate These Italian Fall Fashion Trends
Fall fashion in Italy is all about combining timeless elegance with modern touches that make dressing fun and practical. After watching several runway shows, I’ve picked the top trends that stood out this season — trends you can easily adapt to your own style and everyday life.
One accessory trend caught my eye because it appears across almost every collection: the handheld purse. I’m sharing this trend first since you’ll see it woven throughout many of the outfit ideas that follow. Let’s dive in!
1. The Must-Have Italian Handheld Bag: The Pochette Purse
One of the strongest and most consistent fall fashion trends across Italian runways this season was the handheld purse — especially the elegant pochette style. Most designers showcased bags without straps, meant to be carried in the hand, which adds a refined, polished touch to any outfit. This style is both timeless and chic, perfectly fitting the Italian love for well-curated accessories that complete a look with effortless sophistication.
Interestingly, Max Mara offered a fresh twist on this trend by introducing crossbody purses with longer straps that can still be handheld. This dual-wear design combines style with practicality, allowing you to switch between having your hands free or keeping your bag close and secure. It’s a versatile approach that fits the realities of modern life while staying true to the elegant Italian aesthetic.
Throughout the outfit examples, you’ll see how these handheld purses perfectly elevate each look — proving that sometimes, it’s the accessories that truly tie everything together.

2. Egg-Shaped Silhouettes
Oval-shaped cuts with dropped shoulders were a clear trend on the Prada and Bottega runways. This silhouette works well for pregnant women or anyone wanting to soften and hide the stomach area. Petite women might want to avoid egg-shaped coats and dresses, but can try blouses with this shape paired with tapered trousers and heels for balance.

Outfit Idea: Butter Yellow Midi Coat
Imagine a dropped shoulder buttery yellow midi coat layered over light brown cigarette pants. Add brown heels and a pale cashmere top underneath to keep it soft and elegant. A matching pochette bag finishes the look with a chic Italian flair.
3. Dolman and Balloon Sleeves
Statement sleeves are very much in style this season, seen in tasteful dolman and balloon shapes, especially at Fendi and Bottega. These sleeves add drama without feeling over the top and work beautifully when balanced with more fitted bottoms.

Outfit Idea: Balloon Sleeves Set
Try a classic brown-grey tweed set with a midi straight skirt and a balloon-sleeved blazer cinched in at the waist with a thin belt. Black pointed pumps add a sleek finish. For a twist, wear a similarly shaped midi coat as a dress and belt it at the waist for a versatile outfit that’s both trendy and timeless.

Outfit Idea 2: Safari Shirt with Dolman Sleeves
A light chocolate safari shirt with dolman sleeves cinched in with a thin belt pairs perfectly with darker tailored brown trousers, boots, and a handheld purse. This outfit balances volume on top with sleek tailoring below for a chic, effortless look.
4. Capes and Attached Draping
Capes attached to dresses or sleeves add a romantic and elegant layer. Seen at Fendi, this trend creates a sophisticated silhouette and movement without sacrificing practicality.
Laura Biagiotti and Alberta Ferretti showcased this trend in their own way. A simple way to recreate it would be to wrap a tonal scarf around your shoulders, with the edges falling behind your back. If you do this, it’s best to keep it monochrome.

Outfit Idea: Dress with Asymmetric Cape
Picture a sleek black midi sheath dress with an attached asymmetric cape in the same fabric. The cape drapes elegantly, shorter in front and back but longer on the sides, tied to the sleeve elbows or sides like wings. This outfit captures drama with subtlety—perfect for evenings or events where you want a standout but refined look.
5. Leather Everywhere
This Fall, leather isn’t just a jacket—it’s everything. Italian designers showcased leather in buttery yellows, deep browns, burnt reds, and classic black across dresses, trench coats, tailored blazers, wide-leg trousers, and even handbags and over-the-knee boots. The key is in the texture—matte finishes and soft structures gave the trend an elevated, wearable edge.
The best part is that they even added pleats to the leather; think beautiful leather pleated midi skirts and full on dresses.

Outfit Idea: Matte Burnt Red Leather Set
One way to wear it? A coordinated leather set in a muted burnt red. The look features a pleated midi skirt paired with a matching dropped-shoulder balloon sleeve top, cinched at the waist with a simple leather tie. It’s structured but soft, bold but not overwhelming—especially when styled with sleek heels or knee-high boots and a minimal handheld bag.
6. Unexpected Pleats
We already showcased leather pleats in the previous outfit, but pleats also dominated the trousers on the Armani runway. Some had a subtle, elegant structure, while others leaned into more exaggerated harem or wide cigarette silhouettes. Whether sharply defined or gently draped, these pleated styles added movement and dimension without sacrificing polish. If you love trousers and want to switch things up this season, this trend is absolutely worth trying.

Outfit Idea: Dusty Blue Suit & Silk Blouse
Try a dusty blue tailored set featuring flowy harem-style pleated trousers paired with a tucked-in light grey silk blouse. The softness of the fabric and the structure of the pleats strike a perfect balance—relaxed yet elegant. A muted leather pochette and heeled boots in a matching tone keep the look cohesive and refined.
7. Buttery Yellow for Fall
If you loved wearing butter yellow throughout Spring and Summer, I’ve got good news – you can keep wearing it! This season, it’s warming up the Fall palette in soft, creamy tones and deeper mustard shades.
Gucci leaned bold with vibrant versions, while Bottega created tonal depth by pairing light and dark yellows together. It’s an unexpected color that brings brightness without sacrificing elegance.

Outfit Idea: Tonal Buttery Yellow
Try a midi A-line skirt in a light buttery yellow, paired with a voluminous high-neck sweater in a deeper mustard tone. The oversized fit keeps it casual and cozy, while brown pointed leather boots and a sleek pochette polish it off. It’s effortless color layering, Italian-style.
8. Egg Blue and Burgundy Pairing
While this color combination was spotted during Spring/Summer, it feels unexpectedly fresh and luxurious for Fall and Winter. On the runways, light dusty egg blue was paired with rich maroon tones—think oversized egg-shaped coats layered over dark burgundy dresses with matching pointed booties. Designers played with contrast and depth, using accessories like burgundy pouches or egg blue pieces to complete the look. This mix of softness and richness feels both modern and timeless.

Outfit Idea 1: Burgundy Suit & Egg Blue Cashmere
A dark burgundy suit with a subtle purple undertone, styled with cigarette trousers and matching loafers, becomes instantly more interesting when paired with a light egg blue cashmere knit. Finish the look with a matching egg blue pochette for a sophisticated palette that stands out.

Outfit Idea 2: Intrecciato Blazer & Egg Blue Blouse
Start with wide-leg tailored dark blue jeans and tuck in a chiffon egg blue blouse (or a crisp button-up shirt). Add navy boots and top it off with a dark burgundy intrecciato leather blazer. A burgundy pochette (in smooth leather, not woven) pulls everything together, offering a chic and contemporary nod to this elegant color duo.
9. Brown Is the New Black
Brown took center stage on many runways this season, subtly replacing black as the chicest neutral in the room. While Italian designers like Armani and Max Mara have long embraced brown tones, this year they leaned even more into the richness of chocolate, espresso, and chestnut hues. These earthy tones add warmth and sophistication and can be paired just like black—without the harshness. Perfect for creating depth in tonal looks or grounding brighter shades like buttery yellow and dusty pink.

Outfit Idea: Brown A-Line Skirt & White Shirt
Pair a slightly shiny brown leather midi A-line skirt with a crisp dropped-shoulder white button-up shirt. Leave the neckline open for a relaxed feel and push up the wide sleeves to add volume. The soft sheen of the skirt contrasts beautifully with the shirt’s structure, creating an effortless Italian look that’s grounded in rich, updated neutrals.
10. Dusty Blues, Greys & Rose: A Soft New Palette
If you’re ready to explore alternatives to the typical fall palette of burgundy, tan, and black, Italian runways offered a refreshing twist. Armani led the way with soft dusty blues and greys, while Fendi incorporated romantic tones of rose pink.
These shades are refined, wearable, and surprisingly easy to style in tonal outfits or layered with classic neutrals. They give your wardrobe a quiet elegance that still feels seasonally appropriate without the usual autumn heaviness.

Outfit Idea: Tonal Rose Pink Layers
Inspired by Fendi’s dreamy take on pink, try a pair of tailored pink trousers under a slightly egg-shaped old rose wool coat. The trousers are a touch brighter and cooler in tone, while the coat leans warmer—a contrast that feels deliberate but harmonious. Add a brown leather pochette and boots to ground the look, letting the soft pinks take center stage in this grown-up, romantic fall outfit.
