Classic Red and Green Christmas Table Decor
If you’ve read my Christmas tree ideas article, you’ll see this goes perfectly with many of the red and green Christmas tree. If you haven’t I suggest you see them together, especially if you haven’t decorated yet.
Whether you are Italian or not, red and green is a classic color palette that can help you achieve a very Christmassy look very easily.
Independently of which variation of this look you prefer, all you need is a red table cloth, green napkins, a garland, or multiple ones, and nice tableware. The core decor pieces here are the red roses, the red baubles, the green ribbon bows, and the matching napkin holders.
I chose to use roses for this look because I wanted to give it a more modern romantic look, but if you prefer them, poinsettias can work great.

How to recreate the look:
- Lay down a rich red tablecloth and add a simple white table runner down the center.
- Use white scalloped plates atop red charger plates or plain chargers you have.
- Fold green fabric napkins neatly and place them on each plate. Using a festive napkin holder adds more interest.
- Create a centerpiece with red roses in a large white ceramic clear vase, surrounded by matching red and green Christmas decor like red baubles or mini trees on a green garland.
- Finish with clear wine glasses and long candles for an elegant, festive touch.
This look is perfect for any home that feels traditional and classic, but you can equally make it work for a more contemporary decor.

Rustic and Cozy Christmas Tablescapes
Do you live in the mountains, or do you dream of spending Christmas in a rustic cabin? Either way, this Christmas table decor is perfect for you.
In the images below, I have given you both very rustic and more contemporary decor options.
All you need to create this tablescape is a wooden table, a gingham tablecloth, cozy cream blankets, your everyday matte cream plates, red napkins, lots of fresh foraged greenery, fresh or fake berries, and pine cones, a few candles and some nice cutlery and glasses.

How to recreate the look:
- Use your wooden table and set round wooden placemats.
- Stack simple cream ceramic plates, and top with red fabric napkins tied together with some green garland or brown ribbon.
- Place cozy blankets over each chair for warmth and charm.
- Create a natural centerpiece with garlands, berries and pine cones. You can also decorate a small tree in the middle of the table.
- Use clear wine glasses and basic silverware to keep the focus on the warm, inviting vibe, and don’t forget to add candles.

Elegant Gold and White Christmas Table
If you like glam and lots of twinkly lights, you’ll love this look. The best part is that you can make it as simple and elaborate as you like.
Its basic components include gold charger plates, and gold cutlery, lots of taper candles, some garland, perhaps a few gold baubles, or if you prefer a wide gold wired ribbon you can twist to create an effect design as the centerpiece.
Complement that look with white plates, nice wine glasses, gold cutlery and a matching decor surrounding the table.

How to recreate the look:
- Lay a white tablecloth and use white plates, pairing them with gold cutlery and your nicest wine glasses.
- Place nicely folded white napkins over the plates, secured with a gold ornament or a pine sprig.
- Create a centerpiece with garland and gold baubles, and add a few short or tall candles.
- If you prefer the ribbon centerpiece (image 4), do it this way: take your wide and thick sparkly gold ribbon, you’ll need several metres. Cut into small pieces, the size depends on how big you want your centerpiece to be; I’d say at least 30 cm (12 inches) but more like 45 (17 inches). Fold each in half to create that folded look, and glue the ends with a medium toothpick in the middle. Repeat for as many pieces as you’ll need, based on the diameter of your vase. Place a round florist block in the centre, and start attaching the toothpicks to create that floral ribbon design. It will take some time but it should be fairly easy to recreate.
Italian Vintage Nostalgia Christmas Dining Table
Do you miss your Italian grandma? I do.
I suggest we recreate a Christmas table she would put together effortlessly to achieve a vintage nostalgic decor.
This one can be as simple or complex as you choose your centerpiece to be, but it’s still doable.
You’ll need a selection of table runners, or some Italian style white linen placemats with a nice lace border. Use your Christmas plates and grandma looking glasses and cutlery. Then have fun creating the centerpiece.

How to recreate the look:
- Lay a white tablecloth with a red table runner over it for a cozy vintage feel. Alternatively, you can just use the Italian traditional white placemats to create a very grandma like table.
- Use red and white vintage-style festive plates with golden borders and simple napkins.
- Set vintage cutlery beside each place setting and add water and wine glasses with slight antique details.
- Center the table with a classic garland of pine cones, red flowers, and subtle gold touches. Don’t forget to add candles.
- Keep the overall look lived-in and warm, evoking the feeling of a family Christmas at grandma’s house.
Minimalist and Modern Christmas Table
Is your apartment or home very modern, and want to make sure your Christmas table decor goes with that vibe? Then, this is the look for you.
I have given you warm wood and white options, so pick and choose the look that works best for your home. However, the same could work with a black on black look – if your table is black.
The idea here is to skip using a tablecloth, or use a very plain one, and limit the palette to one or two colors.
You could go with wood on wood, wood and white, white on white, white and grey, white and glass, or even black on black. Those are all very modern pairings.
Keep your tableware simple and to a minimum, and play with a few artistic almost abstract ornaments for the centerpiece. They could be trees, or a vase with unique flowers.

How to recreate the look:
- Skip the tablecloth and use a modern table as your base.
- Arrange minimalist wooden or white mini Christmas tree ornaments or similar simple wooden decorations in the center as a sculptural centerpiece.
- Use wooden or grey charger plates under plain white plates for clean layering.
- Choose simple silver cutlery and fold white napkins neatly on the plates.
- Use simple clear wine glasses and keep the setting airy but festive, with the right amount of Christmas lights and lit candles.

Jewel-Toned Venetian Christmas Table Decor
If Venice is your favorite Italian city, why not go with a Venetian Christmas table decor this year? You can also find the matching Venetian Christmas tree look here.
Think rich jewel toned fabrics, Murano style glass painted vases, golden plates and cutlery, vintage candlesticks, and a luxurious floral arrangement with deep rich colors like greens and deep red.
If you don’t have glass painted vases, you can use a golden one, and incorporate the jewel tones by adding Christmas baubles in those shades.

How to recreate the look:
- Cover your table with a deep velvet green tablecloth for richness.
- Use white plates with brass-rimmed wine glasses for elegant shine. Layer white napkins over the plates tied with a golden ribbon.
- Place brass or gold cutlery and charger plates to complement the jewel tones.
- Arrange clear Murano-style glass vases with fresh or faux flowers as your centerpiece.
- Add warm golden Christmas lights in the background to enhance the Venetian warmth.

Italian Grandma Style Christmas Dining Table
Here’s another Italian grandma inspired Christmas table decor for the holidays, but it’s different than the other one. This one is dainty, pretty and more rustic.
Your lace doilies and grandma style Christmas tableware is going to be the star of the show here. If you have those, all you need to add is some greenery, red berries, and a few tangerine and nuts. Vintage glassware will complement this look beautifully.

How to recreate the look:
- Use lace doilies as placemats on a simple white tablecloth for a homey layered effect.
- Choose vintage-style plates and cutlery with intricate patterns or faded charm.
- Add simple, detailed vintage glass vases with seasonal flowers, keeping arrangements neat and low.
- Use fabric napkins folded simply and placed under plates or beside them. You can add a pine sprig on top of them.
- To emphasize that homey natural look add a bowl of tangerines and one of nuts. It not only adds detail and charm, but it also adds a beautiful pop of color to the neutral palette.

Sicilian Blue Ceramics Christmas Table Setup
If you are wondering whether I am going with this look since I am Sicilian, the answer is most likely. I have already shopped the look. That’s not because of the Sicilian ceramics theme but more due to the fact that I have been loving adding touches of blue throughout my home this year.
If you feel the same, feel free to copy this look. I will be sharing a few snippets of my decorated home in my newsletter. You are very welcome to subscribe!
Blue and white ceramic plates, red flowers, red velvet ribbons, candles, simple or old glassware and cutlery, and perhaps traditional doilies. That’s really all we need to recreate this look.
I am thinking of keeping my blue chair cushions in place and using red charger plates, since I have them from last year and perhaps add a flocked garland for more charm.

How to recreate the look:
- Use blue and white patterned ceramic plates inspired by traditional Sicilian designs.
- Set the table with simple white linens and perhaps doily style placemats.
- Use rustic silver cutlery and clear glassware to balance color intensity.
- Add low floral arrangements in green and red colors to keep the focus on the ceramics.
- Incorporate small decorative touches like red ribbons and baubles over a classic green garland.

Charming Nativity Scene Christmas Centerpiece
This is the perfect Christmas dining table for anyone who loves nativity scenes but either doesn’t have the space to add one, or wants them everywhere in the house.
It’s inspired by the traditional Neapolitan nativity scenes you’ll find throughout Naples this time of the year.
You can make it as simple and elaborate as you want, and as small and big. The effect will still be wonderful.

How to recreate the look:
- Cover your table with a simple white tablecloth and add red fabric napkins folded simply on each plate.
- Use classic white plates with gold-rimmed wine glasses and gold cutlery.
- Create a long nativity scene centerpiece that runs the length of the table with traditional wooden houses, shepherds, animals, and a stone cave representing the birth of Jesus.
- Surround the scene with a simple Christmas garland woven with twinkly fairy lights.
- Keep the surrounding space cozy with classic Christmas decor.
Italian Palazzo Style Christmas Table
You don’t need to live in a palace to recreate this Christmas table decor. It goes beautifully with classic homes of all sizes. It’s also perfect if your home is very white because it will add warmth and Christmas spirit while keeping it elegant and classy.
If you have a large crystal chandelier above your dining table that’s an added bonus, although you don’t obviously need one.
All you really need is classic tableware, black velvet napkins, many garlands, and sparkly baubles in silver, gold and black.
Feel free to add pearl elements, gold candlesticks, white flowers, and even golden or crystal mini trees to add richness to the centerpiece.

How to recreate the look:
- Use a white tablecloth as a base and add black velvet napkins under white plates with pewter pearl borders.
- Set vintage gold and silver candelabra with lit candles along the table for warmth and drama.
- Create a centerpiece from fresh greenery and white flowers with delicate strings of pearls woven throughout.
- Use pewter vintage cutlery and vintage water and wine glasses to complement the theme.
- Keep the setting regal but accessible, under a grand chandelier or elegant lighting fixture.
Poinsettias Traditional Christmas Table Decor
Finally, if you love poinsettias, here’s another very traditional Christmas table decor. This one is inspired by Italian homes in the region of Puglia.
It’s one you can bring together as easily as all the other looks I have shared in this post.
You’ll need a traditional lace white or cream Italian tablecloth, green garland and many poinsettia flowers, your Christmas plates with a touch of red, vintage cutlery and glassware, red napkins, a few candles, and red chair cushions.
Make sure the surroundings match in terms of Christmas decor. I have shared a Poinsettia themed Christmas tree idea here.

How to recreate the look:
- Use a traditional lace white or cream tablecloth as your base.
- Set Christmas plated with red touches, add red fabric napkins folded simply underneath the plates.
- Create a centerpiece with lush poinsettia plants mixed with greenery and warm fairy lights.
- Add your best glassware and silverware for added richness.
- You can add more interest with red chair cushions and poinsettias layered over each plate.
