Looking for brown boots outfits ideas, or not quite sure how to style them?
Hi, I’m Alessia—an Italian who loves sharing fashion tips and inspiration from Italian street style to help you dress in a way that feels timeless, elegant, and always true to yourself.
Today, we’ll look at how Italian women style brown boots, and while we do that, I’ll also answer some of the most common questions around this topic.
Let’s get started.

Are Brown Boots Still In Style?
This question made me smile, because of course brown boots are still in style, and they are never going away.
If you are someone who pays close attention to the runway trends, we might get a fall winter season where designers might not focus on brown boots as much, but that doesn’t mean you can’t wear the ones you have, or buy new pairs.
I promise you that all the respectful shoe shores – brick and mortar and online, will have multiple options for you to purchase. That’s because runway shows and designers’ collection are meant for inspiration, not to be followed to a t.
Whether you have a classic style, are looking to dress more elegant and timeless, or love the old money color palette, brown boots are an essential part of a Fall and Winter wardrobe.
What Colors Look Best with Brown Boots?
First things first, that depends on your style. Let’s look at different styles.
If you love tonal outfits, brown boots can be a great way to add a touch of color to your outfit, although brown can also be considered as a neutral. You could be wearing all black, all cream, all tan, even all red or green, brown boots could be a beautiful option.
Do your outfits feel quiet luxury? If so, consider pairing your brown boots with these colors – whites, creams, beige, ecru, tan, different shades of brown, light blue, navy blue.
For the ladies that love a more high contrast fashion style, the pairing options are plenty. Let me list a few: brown with orange, brown with pink, brown with olive green, brown with yellow, brown with blue, brown and mustard, brown and maroon, brown and red, brown and burgundy.
Ultimately, the most important factor in whether brown boots goes with that color is in my opinion the undertone. It’s much easier to pair two cool undertone colors, and the same thing holds for warm colors. However, that’s not to say that you couldn’t pair warm brown boots with a cool undertone grey dress. It’s all about seeing what makes sense and what doesn’t, what feels right to you, and going with that.
As for me, these are my favorite brown color combos:
- Brown and tan
- Brown and black
- Brown and beige
- Brown and blue (more classic blues)
- Brown and red
- Brown and olive green
- Brown and leopard print
Now that I’ve answered those two fundamental questions, let’s look at some practical brown boots outfits ideas from Italian streets.
Brown Boots Outfits with Jeans
Let’s start with the most widespread garment you likely want to wear with your brown boots – jeans. Ever wondered how to wear brown boots with jeans? Here’s four ways Italian women do it.
I am all about the classic Italian fashion style, so that’s where I am going to start. Outfit one is simple yet timeless. Pair your brown boots with jeans and a trench coat. I would wear a white or blue striped button up underneath, although there are plenty more options. You can do the standard beige trench coat, or go for black to get a more edgy feel.

The style of the jeans doesn’t really matter, as long as it fits you well, and is appropriate for the type of boots you are wearing. However, wide leg jeans can be a nice option.
Another one you can never go wrong with is brown boots with jeans and a camel coat. This one feels very smart-casual, and definitely fits the old money color palette.

If you want to keep it classic but add a little edge to your brown boots and jeans outfit do this. Wear your brown boots with a leather jacket, or even a coat like in the example below. My favorite way would be to wear it with a leather blazer. In this case, the leather piece is also brown, but you can also wear a black, navy or burgundy.

For the ladies that love injecting a little color into their outfit, here’s a simple but colorful brown boots and jeans look. Add a pop of green, or another contrasting color. It can be the sweater, your outerwear, or even just the bag.

Brown Knee High Boots Outfits
Let’s now focus on how to style a very popular boots choice – brown knee high boots. I have spotted three gorgeous Italian outfits featuring this style that are perfect for work, or for more mature women who love to dress up every day.
Outfit one features lighter and brighter brown boots, and is being worn with a long grey sweater dress and beige belted midi coat. The lady wearing it seemed to be running errands.

Outfit two is very elegant and stylish. The Italian woman seemed to be shopping, or in between work meetings. She wore high knee brown suede boots with a midi tweed straight line skirt, a grey knit tucked in, and a slightly lighter grey tweed coat with fur cuffs. She finished the look with a small vintage brown satchel bag.

Outfit three is a very Fall and early Winter work appropriate look, but if you like a more conservative classic look, this could easily be worn for travelling too, especially because it’s paired with a block heeled brown boots. A matching tweed longer skirt and blazer set is styled with a simple black roll neck sweater and dark brown high knee leather boots.

How To Style Brown Ankle Boots Like An Italian Woman
Let’s face it, ankle boots can be difficult to style, especially if you are a petite like me. If you are, the safer way to wear them is like in outfit three below. If you are blessed with longer legs, then you have nothing to worry about! Let’s look at three outfit examples.
Style them with an olive green spezzato suit
This Italian woman is wearing her brown suede heeled ankle boots with an olive green straight light skirt, just below her knees, a high neck sweater, and a slightly darker olive green blazer over her shoulders.

Wear them under a long coat
Whether it’s a leather one, like in the look below or a regular wool coat, if you are on the taller side, this look can really work well. You could style it with a mini skirt and tights, a fitted pair of pants, or jeans.

Wear them under flared tailored trousers
This is one of my favorite looks of this entire post, along with the first two. It has a classic quiet luxury palette, and it’s beautiful both for work and going out. The Italian woman in the picture below paired it with wide leg tailored trousers (could be jeans or corduroy), a brown belt, a brown print blouse, and a camel blazer.

More Brown Boots Outfits From Milan
Here are a few more ways to pair brown boots with either a specific garment, or a particular style of boots.
Tall brown boots with a mini skirt
Asking yourself how to style tall brown boots with a mini skirt, in a way that feels ladylike and sophisticated? Here’s the perfect outfit. A soft pleated tweed skirt, with sheer tights, a beige long blazer buttoned up and cinched in, paired with a matching structured bag. The woman wearing it was not in her 20s, yet she looked gorgeous and elegant.

Brown boots with black leggings
I am sure this is a very popular outfit combination, especially in the US. I have also seen questions about whether you can pair brown boots with black pants. The answer is absolutely yes. However, can I suggest you switch the black leggings with black fitted pants or jeans? Your outfit will instantly feel elevated.
In this example, it’s being worn under a camel cape with tall brown boots.

Brown boots with a denim skirt
Long straight denim skirts have come back in fashion during the past few years. If you have ever asked yourself hot to wear yours with brown boots, try this outfit from Italy. It feels a little more cool and trendy, but you could make it timeless with a few tweaks. Let’s look at both ways to wear it.

Brown chunky boots outfit
Let’s end with another trendy brown boots outfit. If you prefer a more timeless classic look, simply switch the chunky boots with tall boots or even brown Chelsea boots.
Pair your favorite brown boots style with slightly wide straight leg mocha tailored trousers, a beige roll neck sweater, a white oversized wool coat, and an ecru shoulder bag.
