Here’s how Italian women are wearing them.

Black Booties with Floral Coat

Let’s start with the most unique way to wear your black boots this season. If you often pair black boots with a black outfit, that’s actually very Italian. To make that safe look a little more unique and bold, I suggest copying the outfit I spotted a woman wearing in Milan.

Try styling black booties with an all black outfit, and then finish the look with a stunning floral patterned A line midi coat. The cut is very Max Mara, but the print isn’t.

Shop similar pieces: black booties, floral coat.

This can be a stunning date night outfit, and equally a great option for when you want to dress up on Sunday morning. It all depends on your style, lifestyle, and where you are going.

You could wear it to go for brunch, shopping, and even to the hairdresser. Just wear it when it feels right to you. Every day is a day worth getting dressed up, at least that’s the Italian attitude!

Black Boots with Jeans

Is there anything more classic and versatile than this look? I am pretty sure every woman wears a similar outfit at least twice every Winter.

Recreate the look:

Let’s pinpoint the details that elevate this outift:

Detail n.1: the jeans cut is very Italian with that cropped slightly flared end.
Detail n.2: the bright coat gives the outfit a more unique fashionable vibe.
Detail n.3: the cut, tailoring and overall quality of the coat is impeccable. Italian women want their coats to fit them like a glove, whether they are wearing it to the grocery or a party.
Detail n.4: the colourful scarf adds a playful bold element that’s perfect for women who love color. If you, like me, don’t, you can opt for a scarf that blends with the coat, or with the jumper.

Which black boot style do you wear with this outfit?

That style in the picture feels perfect and very Italian. Women who wear heels all the time can tolerate that heel height, especially in boot style. If you don’t, you can go for a similar option but a lower heel, or even a flat boot. You could even opt for Chelsea boots, as long as the jeans is long enough to cover them.

Here’s a more modern black boots outfit with jeans:

Black Boots with a Dress or Skirt

Whether you wear a similar outfit to work or over the weekend, this is the perfect example of how to pair boots with a dress in Winter. If you are petite, keep reading for a special tip just for you.

black boots outfits with dress

Here’s a similar coat, in case you love it as much as I do.

Wear your favorite dress or skirt with black tights and ankle boots. Make sure the ankle boots end at the right height for your legs, and fit you as snug as possible. There’s nothing worse than wide ankle boots, especially with longer dresses and skirts.

The light coat is a great way to play with contrast and brighten your outfit while keeping it neutral and classic. To tie everything together you want to match all your accessories – purse and gloves with your black boots. Since this is a skirt and not a dress, I love how she is wearing a black high neck sweater that complements and elevates the look beautifully.

Black Boot Tips for Petite Ladies like me
You can wear a similar outfit to this one with a few tweaks.

Firstly, make sure the length of the skirt/dress and coat is ideal for you. Slightly shorter than longer would be better.

Secondly, either opt for low booties and make sure they go perfectly with the tights you are wearing, or opt for high knee boots, so you can only see one element below the skirt. That helps elongate you.

The other option is to wear a black dress or skirt, with black opaque tights and black ankle boots that fit you tightly. That way, it’s all one color, from top to bottom. Though, it’s perfectly fine to have a light coat on top.

Black Knee High Boots Outfit

If you love your black over the knee boots and are looking for ways to style them like an Italian, this is a perfect example for the beginning or end of Winter, when you can get away with not wearing a coat.

black high knee boots outfit

It’s really simple – black fitted trousers, black knit, a long wool blazer you can cinch at the waist with a belt or by simply buttoning it up, and then a purse. You can add a pop of color or you can go all black.

How to make this outfit more modest and demure?

If you dress up more modestly, you might feel this outfit it’s a little too bold and perhaps out there for you. I feel the same.

This is how I would tweak it to work with me (like in image below):
1. I would wear over the knee high boots with a lower heel, and perhaps in suede.
2. I would also opt for a higher neckline jumper.
3. Finally, I might also wear the blazer open and layer it with a black dress. That way, it’s nothing is too tight nor revealing.

Over the Knee Boots for Work

Let’s say you don’t own a pair of black high knee boots but you love the look. I am actually in the same boat, and I really want to buy a pair this year.

If you are pondering it because you don’t know whether you’ll wear them enough, here’s another outfit idea. You can wear this to work or on the weekend. It’s dressy, stylish and tasteful. You can play with different colours by simply switching the skirt – green, red, white, cream, brown.

Here’s a similar skirt in case you love the color!

The pencil skirt and blazer gives it both a corporate vibe and also a very Italian feel. Switch up the purse to a more structured bag for work, or a smaller clutch for a date night look.

How to wear Flat Black Boots with a Pretty Skirt?

Do you love mixing cool and pretty pieces? If so, this outfit might intrigue you. The boots are flat and comfortable but have that cool Milan girl vibe. The jacket is classic but leaning towards modern because of its crop. And the skirt is very pretty but the black tones it down.

black boots with short skirt

If you like me don’t vibe with the frilled skirt, this is how I would change it up:

I would switch the skirt with an A line shape, same height and color, perhaps a wool fabric.

And for petite ladies, like me, I would change the boots to hit you higher, just below or above the knee.

Tip: In general, unless you are really tall, you should avoid having your boots stop at mid leg height.

Black boots outfit idea with cream

While black is the color you will see most Italian women wearing in Winter and any other season, that doesn’t mean you can’t pair black boots with a lighter outfit.

Have a look at what I have in mind.

black boots under skirt

Black over the knee boots or high enough to avoid showing any leg, because that disrupts from the seamless look and also makes you look shorter.

You can choose between a pleated and non-pleated A line midi skirt in cream and pair it with a matching knitted top and long coat. If the coat hits at the same height as the skirt, you know you’ve nailed the brief.

This is an outfit you can wear anywhere, from work to a catch up date with the girls. And of course, feel free to experiment with this tonal outfit in different colors. How about an all tan look? If you want to be on trend, you could try an all butter yellow version.

How to wear black chunky boots like an Italian

I must say I have kept the outfits very classy and timeless, appropriate for every age, but if you are young, or perhaps love the cool Milanese fashion vibe, this one is especially for you. I would wear it myself, after switching the boots to something less chunky.

Shop the look:

I am not a yellow lover, but I think that purse brings the outfit together beautifully. What about you?

Black, grey, cream and that pop of yellow create this modern interpretation of an otherwise classic outfit. The cropped flared trousers are very Italian, but the oversized coat makes it more modern and youthful.

Black Short Boots Outfit Idea

I have already shown you a few outfits with ankle boots, but here’s another very Italian one. We are taking the Italian uniform outfit (as I like to call it) – the one with a midi A line skirt and a button up shirt, and giving it a Winter look. This is actually perfect for Fall too!

Shop the look (carousel):

This time we are swapping the shirt for a blazer, and the heels or loafers for ankle boots. We also added some interest with the color and fabric of the skirt – a very timeless green suede number.

We have kept all the rest toned down with a tan on tan look which complements the skirt beautifully but lets the boots be the star of the outfit.

Don’t forget to cinch in that blazer so that you can show the beautiful skirt shape and yours too!

Black Boots Outfit Idea for Work

Here’s another one for the corporate ladies, any lawyers or doctors, but even architects and more creative women who love a black work outfit in Winter.

Obviously, you can also wear this to the office or to run errands, depending on how bougee you want to feel. I say, the fancier the better, because we only live once!

By now, I am sure you know the drill. Take a black tailored trousers slightly cropped and either with a wider straight leg or slightly flared towards the bottom. Pair it with a matching top – since it’s Winter, we’ll opt for a black knit. Then add your black heeled boots. Finish the look with a blazer or coat, opting for darker deeper colors, warmer fabrics like tweed, and you are done.

Casual Black Boots Outfit Idea

I am not sure whether I can call this casual. I’d day it’s more smart casual and comfortable, perfect to wear on a day to day basis for running errands, going to the office, taking the kids to school, etc.

The cape makes it warm but not too much, and the high knee boots give it that fashion element that elevates the entire look.

This one will also be great for going out with the family on a weekend, shopping with friends, and even travelling in Winter.

If you are someone who is not sure about wearing brown and black, I’d say think again. Or you could opt with brown high knee boots instead of black.

How to Dress Up Black Boots?

Let’s say you are wearing outfit number 10 and need to go out to a fancy dinner that evening, here’s how to quickly get ready. Simply swap the blazer for a fancy fur coat – burgundy is both dressy and Wintery. It also gives it a festive look, if your event happens to be in December.

black boots outfits with long coat

Ideally, you would wear a pair of boots with a stiletto heel, but if you don’t wear that kind of heel, no problem.

Don’t forget to change your big work bag for a smaller one. A structured purse looks fabulous with this outfit.

If your job requires fancy dressing, or you love dressing that way anyway, this can also be a day outfit. I think in Winter, we can get away with dressing up in the morning, and outfits can feel a little more similar between day and night. Of course, I wouldn’t tell you to wear an embellished long black dress from day to night. But in this case, it works.

black boots outfits with maxi dress

How to wear Black Boots with a Maxi Dress?

Calling all the young ladies who love mixing feminine with modern. This look might not feel too pretty or modern, but if you look attentively you can spot the details. Pairing the more minimalist mac coat and flat boots with a maxi floral skirt feels modern, while also being feminine and comfortable.

The tonal pairing of the dress with the coat streamlines the outfit, making it perfect for petite ladies too, although you might want to wear a slightly heeled black boot.

This outfit is great for creative work environments, for weekend days out, for a smart casual Winter dinner, and for most occasions this time of the year.

If you don’t like green, try it with a burgundy floral dress and coat, or perhaps brown or beige or even red or blue.

Wear Black High Knee Boots like the Italian Girlies

If you are very young, in your 20s or under, or perhaps you have a daughter that age who loves Italy, this outfit is perfect for you or her.

black boots outfit ideas with shorts

I personally wouldn’t wear it because I think the shorts are too short, but this is a look young ladies in Italy wear a lot. If you are petite, both in height and proportions, this look will feel more appropriate than if you happen to be curvy. Of course, you can still wear it, but I would opt for longer shorts, or an over the knee dress instead.

Here’s how I would wear it:

Shop Black Boots like an Italian Woman

Now that we’ve seen all 15 black boots outfit ideas inspired by Italian streetwear, you can easily spot that there are five black boot styles Italian women wear the most.

Here they are:

  1. Black heeled low booties or ankle boots – more stiletto style;
  2. Black heeled high boots, with a more comfortable heel;
  3. Black over the knee boots – heeled or not, suede or leather;
  4. Black flat high boots, with a less pointed toe
  5. Black mid calf chunky boots

You don’t need all of them in your wardrobe. It all depends on your style, your work environment, and lifestyle. Also, don’t forget to shop your closet first!

Let me give you a few scenarios to help you spot the one that can work the best for your closet.

SCENARIO 1
You are a busy lady who works in an office, has kids or not, and is always out and about. You love being dressed up and wearing heels. I would choose one or two from the first three styles – either styles one and two, or two and three.

SCENARIO 2
If you are on the other hand, you are a homebody that works from home and loves cosy outfits that are chic but comfortable, styles four and three are best suited to you.

SCENARIO 3
If you need a pair of black boots for date nights, or dressier Winter occasions, opt for style 1.

SCENARIO 4
If you are someone who loves flat and comfortable but also has a modern cool vibe, opt for style 5. The chunky boots are also great for younger ladies who are still going to school, or work in a more creative environment.
